How to apply for an Adventurous Training Grant from the AGC Institution

All members of the AGC Institution (i.e. contribute under the One Day’s Pay Scheme) are eligible to apply for financial assistance to help with their personal contributions towards the cost of Adventurous Training exercises and expeditions.  Grants are awarded for a wide variety of activities, including climbing, skiing, trekking, mountain biking and diving, whether they be wholly AGC orientated or whether one member of AGC is participating in an exercise organised by a unit of a different cap badge.

Here is a guide to assist you when applying for an Adventurous Training grant.

1.         Send a completed “Application Form For Adventurous Training Grant From AGC Institution Funds” to SO2 Plans/Coord, RHQ AGC.  On this form you must provide full and accurate financial information regarding costs of the exercise in order that the amount granted may be awarded.

2.         Include a nominal roll of all AGC personnel attending the exercise/expedition.  Nominal rolls must include regimental number, rank, name, initials.  RHQ AGC must be notified of any changes to the nominal roll prior to the event as it will affect the amount granted.  It is accepted that all names, and therefore final costs, may not be confirmed in the early planning stages, and so a provisional allocation of funds can be made pending receipt of the final nominal roll and funding arrangements.

3.         Copies of any applications of grants from Public Funds, such as the Joint Service Adventurous Training Form “Alpha,” must also be submitted.  This will enable a full financial assessment to be made.  Inevitably some exercises/expeditions will be more challenging than others and this will be taken into consideration during the application review process.

4.         All documents should be submitted with a covering letter.

5.         All documentation is to be submitted no later than 6 weeks prior to the event (although it is appreciated that there are occasions whereby last minute opportunities for adventurous training arise).

6.         All grants are awarded subject to a suitable article being produced for the AGC Journal.  Articles should be sent with photographs and/or digital images to:
