The 2008 AGC
Journal – Guidelines for Submission of Articles
1.
The 2008 edition of the AGC Journal will be
published and distributed in October 2008. The deadline for all
articles is 11 Jul 08 and articles can be sent in from Mar 08. We need
articles that are interesting, readable, humorous and well illustrated
from all members of the Corps, especially our younger members.
2.
Articles should be sent using the MOD Email
system to: RHQ AGC – A/Regt Sec or to
Articles can also be sent on CD to the Editor at RHQ AGC, Gould House,
Worthy Down, Winchester, SO21 2RG.
3.
The Journal is divided into Sections that include:
RHQ, Directorates, Unit Notes, Feature Articles, Operations, Adventure
Training and Sport. There are no fixed quotas of pages for each
Section. It is planned to have 176 pages in the 2008 edition.
4. Each
page of the Journal can take up to 650 words. This allows enough space
for a quarter page size picture. Feature articles, Operations,
Adventure Training and Sports articles should be able to fit into one or
two pages, i.e. be either 650 or 1300 words. These articles must be
accompanied by at least two images per page of text. Articles about
your Unit on Operations should be cleared by the senior AGC member of
the unit.
5. Unit
Notes should fit into one page, i.e. be no longer than 650 words and
have at least two images. These articles should normally be cleared
with the senior AGC member of the unit.
6. The name
of the word document file for each article is to have the full name of
the article and not just ‘journal 2008’ or something similar.
7. All
articles must have pictures. An image of the author of the article must
be included. Images must be in jpeg or tiff files and not embedded in
the document. Images must be high resolution and tell the story and
must be at least 2 megapixels in size. Articles without images will not
be used. We do not accept pictures that are printed on a PC on
photographic or other paper. The file naming convention for each jpeg
file is: the word document file name plus a number. This helps to keep
the word files and pictures together.
8. All
pictures are to be captioned with e.g. who is in the picture, what is in
the picture, what is happening, where is it, when is it etc. The
captions are to be at the end of the story and are to be: the jpg file
name followed by the caption.
9. All
images are accepted on the strict understanding that they may be
reproduced freely in the AGC Journal. Where images are the copyright of
third parties, for example: images obtained from professional
photographers, press photographers or picture libraries, the sender must
obtain written permission from the copyright holder to reproduce the
image(s) in the AGC Journal. The Editor may, in exceptional
circumstances, be able to pay reproduction fees for copyright images,
but only if they are of the highest quality and essential to the
article. Where there are children in pictures, the written permission
of the parents or guardian must accompany the article.
